If you decide to jump down this rabbit hole as I have - the mods I'm using are "7th Heaven" modding tool and majority of the mods that come with that, the new "Remako" upscaling mod, and the "New Threat" mod for the minor gameplay changes/tweaks. It's all very well made, considerate, and extremely fun I would add.Īll in all I'm having a GREAT time so far with the minor gameplay tweaks, as well as the boost to the graphics and new models. However in addition, when you come across Jessie with her leg stuck and opt to help her out, you will then suddenly be ambushed by the Scorpion boss AGAIN, only this time it's very beat-up and battle worn with it's own unique model, except that none of it's abilities will "work" any time it's tries to use them, and thus this portion is just there to just suck up more time.

This sent me down the FF7 modding scene rabbit hole for a good 8 hours yesterday researching and trial and error until I finally ended up with a modded version of my Steam copy that included new and improved character/enemy models, greatly improved/updated textures in field/battle/map, and even minor updates to the game play including new boss encounters, minor gameplay tweaks, and a minor difficulty increase (nothing hardcore, just a minor increase) - here is an example from the first bombing mission - spoilers for what the Gameplay tweak mod changes/adds during this mission though so be warned if you're trying for a "fresh" experience: After you fight the Scorpion boss for the first time, the time to get out before the bomb goes off is quite a bit shorter than the original game, meaning you actually need to run or defeat enemies very quickly to not get a game over and restart this portion - but it's not difficult to the point where's it's impossible by any means. I recently ran across the Remako Mod post in this subreddit that covered a new mod for the PC Version of Final Fantasy 7 that uses "AI Upscaling" tech (I am not knowledgeable of this tech at all, I just see the wordage thrown around recently) to upscale the pre-rendered backgrounds to HD quality/clarity, and to good effect I would add in my personal opinion.
